The Tree Behind My Functional Fill’s Logo

The olive tree, the symbol behind My Functional Fill’s logo, is deeply connected to functional medicine and holistic health. Its roots run exceptionally deep through the earth’s soil, relying on water, limestone, and minerals to grow. An intricate climate, alternating between dry and hot summers with rainy, but mild winters, allows it to thrive.

A Deep-Rooted Symbol of Strength and Resilience

The olive tree’s roots run exceptionally deep through the earth’s soil, relying on water, limestone, and minerals to grow. An intricate climate—alternating between dry and hot summers with rainy, yet mild winters, allows it to thrive.

During times of drought, or even when there’s a depletion of nutrients, the olive tree endures.

Its beautiful silver-green leaves are not only eye-catching, but enable it to preserve moisture by reflecting sunlight.

And finally, for centuries, this tree has brought communities together—demanding their magnificent fruit to be harvested by hand and exported globally.

The Olive Tree and Holistic Health

The olive tree is at the heart of My Functional Fill’s logo. It represents what I envision holistic health to be—literally and figuratively.

In a literal sense, olive oil is a staple ingredient in my breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It’s at the core of the Mediterranean Diet and it’s in my family’s blood.

My family’s heritage is Lebanese. Home to beautiful olive tree orchards, you would think that it is the national tree (although it’s the Cedar).

Functional Medicine and the Olive Tree Metaphor

Figuratively, the olive tree symbolizes much more. Functional Medicine is often represented as a tree with its roots symbolizing both beneficial and harmful inheritable factors that influence our health and longevity.

Life’s experiences and our own beliefs also influence the health of these roots. The deepest roots depict the pillars of lifestyle medicine:

  • Sleep

  • Movement

  • Nutrition

  • Stress

  • Relationships

The roots emerge to a single trunk which embodies symptoms and imbalances we experience from energy to immunity to detoxification.

The branches of the tree sprout into our biological systems: cardiology, neurology, gastroenterology, pulmonology, endocrinology, hepatology, urology, and immunology.

It’s no wonder functional medicine is often described as a “root-cause” approach to health. By dedicating time and effort to nurturing the roots, we set off a cascade of favorable changes that strengthen the entire tree. This is our vitality.

The Olive Branch: A Universal Symbol of Peace

And one last, but certainly not least quality I love about the olive tree—the olive branch in particular—is that it is the universal symbol of peace.

With all the chaos that is occurring in our world today, it is always appreciated, welcomed and cherished when peace is at the center of everyone’s intention and behavior.
